CCFT Scores in CFT Communications Contest
Local 4400's submission from last fall, authored by Maya Bendotoff, won Third Prize in the 2013 CFT Communications Contest. Nominated in the category of Best Single Effort, "Cabrillo With or Without Prop 30," was a 32-page power-point resource on teaching the state budget and understanding the local impact of last fall's election. Congratulations, Maya!
Time for CCFT Elections
Nominations are now open for CCFT Council Reps and Officers beginning next fall (nominate yourself or a colleague by downloading a form). Council reps serve two year terms; all members are eligible to run for office. Meetings are every 3-4 weeks on Monday afternoons from 2:30-4:30, and great snacks are always provided. The following officers will also be elected: President, Co-Vice Presidents (representing full-time and part-time faculty); Treasurer, and Historian—any CCFT member who has served on the Council, on a committee, or has been an active in CCFT activities is eligible to run.
Nominations will close on Friday, March 29th. Ballots will go out on April 9th, and members can vote through April 18th. Ballot boxes will be stationed in each division office and in the staff lounge. Only members are allowed to vote in CCFT elections. If you are not sure whether you are a member, please contact Maya Bendotoff or fill out a blue membership card and place in the CCFT mailbox.
Reelwork Film Festival 2013
Attention Cabrillo faculty! This year is the twelfth annual Reelwork Labor Film Festival, and CCFT is again a sponsor. The festival will go from April 24th to May 4th. Please check the festival link for a full schedule of films and events. There will be a screening at the Cabrillo Watsonville Forum (Room 4350) at 7 pm on Friday, May 3rd. Films will include: Tax the Rich (Fred Glass, 2012, 8 min), CFT in the News—from the Millionaire's Tax to the Victory of Prop. 30 (Fred Glass, 2012, 10 min), and We're Not Broke (Karin Hayes & Victoria Bruce, 2012, 81 min). Find out more about these films at the Reelwork website and tell your students about all of the festival's great films depicting many aspects of working people's lives and how union organizing makes a difference.
Remembering Donald Eugene JensenOn Thursday, March 14th (Pi Day), Cabrillo Mathematics instructor Don Jensen passed away from a rare, aggressive sarcoma. Don was a beloved teacher and colleague and a great unionist—he served as CCFT Treasurer from 1993-2004. His memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 6th at 11 AM at Twin Lakes Church. His wife Charlotte, also a Cabrillo instructor, has asked that stories of Don's life be sent to her for sharing at his memorial and afterwards. |

Conference funds are back and sabbaticals will resume
Thanks to the passage of Prop. 30, full-time instructors still have their conference funds. Conference monies temporarily held aside last fall pending the election are back in division accounts and available for your use. Part-time instructors may request conference money directly from full-time colleagues or from a division general fund (see your division office staff for more info.). Sabbaticals for full-timers, suspended for two years during the recent budget crunch, will be back next year. Faculty status was deferred for two years and should be accurately reflected in the links to eligibility lists on the Sabbatical Leave Review Board webpage.
CCFT Part-Timers Survey
Part-Timers: check your mailboxes in the staff lounge for a paper survey, intended to gather vital information so that the union can better understand your collective needs and interests and advocate for you more effectively at the bargaining table. Your participation is essential for accurate, comprehensive results. We will also send an e-version, for those of you who would prefer to use it, so keep your eyes peeled. Please complete the survey by April 12th.
Part-Timers Drop In Coffee:
Wed., April 17, 9-11:30 AM
Your representatives on the Executive Board, John Govsky, VP; Eric Hoffman Grievance Officer; and Sadie Reynolds, Adjunct Chair; plus Director Maya Bendotoff will be there to answer questions and hear concerns. The main focus of the event will be to discuss the Part-Time survey results with a view toward preparing CCFT leadership to negotiate on your behalf and otherwise represent your interests as faculty workers on campus. We need your input, so please join us in the Staff Lounge/Mailroom for coffee, tea, treats, and solidarity!
California Part Time Association Annual Conference
Coming up on April 20th, 9-4:30 at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. CCFT will reimburse registration and mileage for up to five part time faculty to attend. Contact John Govsky if you're interested in joining Cabrillo's delegation! Learn more about it here at the CPFA Forum.org.
