Cabrillo College President, Matt Wetstein acted swiftly, with support of PIO Kristen Fabos, to counteract the hateful Pride flag destruction, at the Watsonville campus, by organizing a flag raising ceremony, on Monday March 7th. Attended by leaders and LGBTQ+ community supporters CCFT President, Tobin Keller, raised the larger Pride flag in solidarity. The flag will be displayed for the next 30 days along with the Aptos Pride flag. Leaders and community members attended and spoke to the gathering of fifty people. Among the speakers were the Cabrillo Governing Board Chair, Donna Ziel, trustees Adam Spickler, Steve Trujillo, and Filipe Hernandez. Watsonville Center Dean of Education, Eddie Cervantes and faculty Tera Martin both gave impassioned speeches calling for unity and love.

At the Cabrillo Watsonville Center the Pride flag was found destroyed early Saturday morning. At about the same time UCSC officials discovered anti-Black, antisemitic, and white-supremacist graffiti on the Crown and Merrill College buildings Saturday morning.
