COVID-19 Information for CCFT Members & Faculty

A Restful Place - by Inge Riis McDonald

CCFT is working with the Cabrillo College District to insure support and safety for all faculty. We are working with the District to insure that there will be no changes in pay and benefits for all faculty through the end of the academic year. We have also asked for compensation or credit for the extra work involved with transferring courses online. In addition we have requested that faculty be kept current on all information regarding COVID-19 and any related Cabrillo cases. Our requests are now in the hands of the Districts’ negotiating team. Please refer to Matt Wetstein’s email from March 23rd for his current messaging. As we move forward with any agreement it will be posted here. We are also working closely with the California Federation of Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers for information. The California Community College Chancellor’s Office has updates and guidelines that give us direction as well. For information on transitioning your courses online please refer to president, Matt Wetstein’s email from Friday, March 13th. Also refer to any directive from your division dean.

For now I will share the kind words from faculty and Council Rep., Rachel Mitchell:

Thinking of all of you, your families, our students, their families, and our community.  Always grateful for ALL of my Cabrillo family.  Warmly, Rachel

This comes shared from another colleague, a yogi.  For many, yoga is a practice that is spiritually grounding and as yoga studios also close, here is an excellent app, Down Dog, which has opened access to all of its content for free until April, making this available while we may need it most.

Prayer for a Pandemic

May we who are merely inconvenienced
Remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors
Remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home
Remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent.
May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close
Remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips
Remember those that have no place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all.
May we who settle in for a quarantine at home
Remember those who have no home.
During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.
Amen.

Take care, be safe, and thank you for all that you do for each other and our students.
