Dear campus community,
Day 3 of Campus Equity Week is devoted to a state level focus.
Recently, Governor Newsom vetoed AB375, a bill that had worked its way through the legislature and landed on his desk with unanimous, bipartisan support. AB375 would have raised the teaching load cap for adjunct faculty to 80-85%.
The Faculty Association of the California Community Colleges (FACCC) will be keeping this as a top legislative priority, among others, which you can learn about here. Additionally, please see Equity in Learning Starts with Equity for Community College Teachers.
For today’s “equity pause,” attached is are a series of slides on How We Got Here and actions you can take to support equity for adjunct faculty. Be sure to click on the “Step Up” link in the final slide!
Finally, I just want to take this opportunity to acknowledge that all of us here at Cabrillo are essential—one group is not more essential than the other. It takes a community to help our students, and each other, recognize and fulfill our fullest potential, as individuals and the collective.
Have a good day everyone. As ever, Rachel (CCFT Adjunct Chair)
